  4. Mod to install xtalfilter:
  5.  An International Radio xtal filter 2.1Khz wide, 455Khz  filter will fit
  6. into this radio. The top of it can be stuck to the diecast housing  on
  7. left front of radio looking at the bottom of radio with front facing
  8. forward. I used double sided tape to mount it to the chassis between the
  9. circuit board and chassis.
  10. The pins of filter are facing back and to the top. A couple of short
  11. runs of minature coax and connectors and the ceramic filter on receive
  12. can be replaced. There was a lot of difference using the xtal filter in
  13. place of the original ceramic against strong signals close to the
  14. receive frequency. Model # of filter is #702.

  26.  WARNING! Any modifications made to your equipment are performed at
  27.  your own risk.  Be aware that these mods will probably void your

  30.  A modification to open up the radio.
  31.  
  32. Remove bottom cover..near battery there are 6 solder pads numbered 1
  33. thru 6....pad 1 is already shorted with a chip resistor.....short pads
  34. 2 and 3 with solder...check pad 6 and if it has a chip resistor on it
  35. ...remove it...this one has to be removed to go out of band on hf and
  36. 6m.....replace cover and turn on radio while holding in the lock and
  37. fast buttons....this resets micro-processor and you will also lose all
  38. your memories that you have entered...you will have to reprogram
  39. these....TX coverage will be 1.8-76mhz with no gaps...DO NOT TX BETWEEN
  40. 30-36MHZ -- not only is it illegal, but you may damage the HF PA.

  50. Yeasu model FT-847 to transmit out of band. I believe this will be of
  51. interest to your readers. Please post this file on your site under
  52. "RADIO MODS." The following text shows the exact contents of the

  57. WARNING! There are apparently different versions of the FT-847, as such
  58. some may not modify. Modifications made could void your warranty.
  59. Perform any modification at your own risk. The author assumes no
  60. responsibility whatsoever from the use or misuse of this information.

  64. Once modified the Frequency coverage of the FT-847 in TX mode is:  1.8
  65. MHz to 76 MHz (no gaps) CAUTION: DO NOT TRANSMIT IN THE RANGE 32 MHz TO
  66. 37 MHz AS YOU ARE TRANSMITTING INTO A LOW PASS FILTER AND COULD DO
  67. DAMAGE TO THE POWER AMPLIFIER.  137 MHz to 174 MHz and 410 MHz to 470
  68. MHz

  70. The modifications are as follows ... 
  71. Remove bottom cover you should see the backup battery, on the left side
  72. their are 6 solder pads numbered 1,2,3,4,5,6. Pad number one should
  73. already have a 0 ohm chip resistor across it, short pads 2 and 3 with 0
  74. ohm chip resistors, small wire, or a simple solder bridge.  Verify that
  75. pad 6 has no chip resistor on it. If indeed it does, remove it.  The
  76. radio will not transmit out of band on HF or 6 meters if this
  77. resistor/jumper is left intact.  Replace the cover, make all necessary
  78. connections such as power, antenna etc.  Now press the fast and lock
  79. buttons simultaneously while powering up the radio. This will reset the
  80. microprocessor resulting in the loss of any memory presets.  Your
  81. modification is complete. RF power output should be the normal 100
  82. watts through the six meter band however, output power may diminish to
  83. as low as 20 watts as you reach 70 MHz and beyond. This is normal as no
  84. cause for panic.

  86. 137 MHz to 174 MHz and 410 to 470 MHz ranges should produce a
  87. respectable output power of 50 watts.

  92. Yaesu 847  FC 20 tuner fix

  94. The fix is on in one of the menus in the Yaesu 847
  95. After this mod the 847 will tune up to a 7:1 insted of 3:1

  98. The first thing you need to do is get into the service menu. You do this by
  99. holding down the three buttons on the mic and turning on the radio. The
  100. first menu will be Fm-51 do not change that one. Rotate the sub-tune knob
  101. until you see the menu that says SWR 3.0 to the left this you will see two
  102. small numbers or numbers letter combination. Rotate the MEM/VFO CH knob
  103. until you see 9A then push the menu button and you are done.
